Nachshonim Youth Association

About Nachshonim

The Nachshonim Youth Association was established in 2009 with the aim of meeting the needs of disadvantaged and at-risk youth in Israel's geo-social periphery, who do not have access to informal educational activities.

Our goal is to promote equality and cultivate positive forces in Israeli society, by developing personal and group leadership among children and youth in the neighborhoods

Our Mission

At Nachshonim Youth Association, we’ve been transforming the lives of disadvantaged and at-risk youth. Our safe and inclusive Nachshonim Houses offer a daily meal, educational support, and a long term relationship with a significant adult, helping over 1,500 children and teens each year to unlock their potential and envision a brighter future.

The unique model incorporates educational methods typical of youth movements, such as youth guiding, trips and camps, and the option to continue to a pre-army voluntary year of civil service within the organization, thus creating a holistic educational, social and therapeutic framework. The Houses operate in partnership with local welfare and education departments.

What Makes Us Unique

Long standing stable team

Youth home educators work and guide the youth for years, starting from their initial years as kids in the center, through adolescence and long after their graduation through our “Modeling Leadership” alumni program

Comprehensive Approach

Educators maintain contact with all relevant elements surrounding the youth and their education, including school staff, parents, welfare personnel, etc. Through this holistic approach, we manage to comprehensively address all our youths’ needs

Creating a home for youth

A safe and inclusive space that is a real alternative to the street and provides an opportunity to be part of an educational group and a normative, healthy childhood and adolescence experience

Empowerment

Empowerment and development of the sense of the agency of each participant to take responsibility, create, volunteer and believe in themselves and their ability to influence the neighborhood and the community

Leadership

The youth in Nachshonim serve as junior guides to the younger kids, and after highschool graduation, take part in a voluntary “year of service” before enlisting to the army. Nachshonim alumni become future educators at Nachshonim Youth Homes and become role models for the next generation in their neighborhoods

Community Engagement and Social Impact

Nachshonim Youth Clubs actively promote community involvement, encouraging youth to initiate and lead projects that address local needs. This fosters a deep sense of belonging and responsibility, transforming participants into proactive citizens who positively influence their surroundings while strengthening the social fabric of their neighborhoods

Swords of Iron War

Since the beginning of the war, Nachshonim has doubled its activities in the various cities in which we operate, and especially in frontline cities.

During the first months of the war, as education systems were shut down all over Israel, we started operating in shelters instead of our regular locations and for longer hours than in regular times, providing educational response to additional youth and children who arrived at the shelters.

In all our centers, we’ve also been providing assistance to the general population through mobilizing the youth and our vast network of Nachshonim alumni in the cities in which we work and their families. The activities include volunteering in hospitals, community centers, and municipal assistance centers, helping in the collection and distribution of food baskets and equipment, cleaning and organizing shelters, and more.

Since then, we have been focused on continuing to provide a comprehensive response to our youths’ needs and help them rebuild their confidence, sense of belonging, and ability to make a difference.

The war has put a strain on every part of Israeli society and especially on marginalized and disadvantaged communities, and the lack of structure and stability exaggerated the challenges of at-risk youth.
